always, always measure your window and make note of which way it
opens...up and down...or side to side. Is there any hydro close to the
window that you would like to install a air conditioner?? Over sizing a
air conditioner will not make the room colder !! Walls, hall ways and
door ways will slow down the cold air from circulating around into
other rooms.

- My room ac does not cool. Part 1
Have
you had it cleaned? The back coil (condensor) and front coil
(evaporator) needs to be cleaned every year. Some places even 6 months.
If you have a build up of dust and algae, this will cause your
compressor to overheat and cause poor cooling. Please make sure you
clean out the condensor and your front coil for proper cooling.
Use a degreaser to help eliminate the build up with a spray nozzle.
Start by blowing from the outside in. Please remove AC from your home
and wash outside for proper cleaning.
- My room ac does not cool. Part 2 But i think some freon will do the trick.
You
could have a leak in the system. If you hear the fan blowing,and the
compressor on, then there might be a sealed system leak. At this point
you need to call a qualified technician. You can not just add freon to
an AC. You must find a leak. The system is completely sealed. If it is
low then there is a defect and needs to be corrected.
- My room AC make a noise when it starts.
Most
of the time this is normal. The compressor internal valve will
sometimes rattle on start up till the oil is moving. You might just
want to live with it. Because the only solution is to replace it. Also
you may look to see if you have any copper lines to close to your
compressor or the cabinet it pushes into.
- My Room AC fan motor is squeeling.
Only
certain models have oil ports on the top of the motors. Check to see if
you have two on your model by looking at the top of the motor and
seeing some yellow tabs. If so pull them out and use some small motor
oil. If not, the only thing you can do is replace the motor.
- My Room Ac leaks water out the front.
Goes
back to question 1. Your AC needs to be cleaned every year. You may
have a build up of algae in your evaporator (front coil) not allowing
water to drain from your front to back.
You may also have not enough tilt to your ac. It must have some tilt to
drain the water to the rear. Pour some diluted bleach in your front
trough to remove some algae. Refer to question one for more information.
